“Don't treat your soil like dirt”

“The passion behind the business”
Sally Fields is a fifth-generation Australian from a long lineage of farmers, gardeners, and animal keepers. Sally cut her teeth in the Brigalow Belah scrub of Southwest Queensland, riding horses, mustering cattle and being free to explore. It was here she cultivated a deep love of the country and its critters.
After earning a degree in Rural Science, Sally pursued a career in agronomy, empowering farmers with workshops and mentorship to improve their land outcomes. She also served as Project Manager for the Healthy Farming Futures initiative for Terrain NRM, as well as spearheading a collaborative effort to organise the 2023 Soil To food conference in Atherton.

Here are some of her notable contributions.
More than 120 people attended the two-day Soil to Food Conference in Atherton in June 2023. Focused on soil health, farmers listened to a range of speakers including local and national farmers who are transitioning to regenerative agriculture practices to build healthy soils, healthy people and healthy profits
Sally Fields, agronomist at Terrain NRM, talks about the importance of ground cover to prevent water and wind erosion and to build soil health and organic matter. Featuring local farmer John Gargan, who uses mulch created from his mixed species cover crops on his cash crops. John's organic matter has increased substantially within a year of adopting this practice.
